Member of the Board

Tommy D. Swett retired in 1996 from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke where he served as Director of Student Support Programs for 23 years with an annual budget of over four hundred and twenty-five thousand dollars and a staff of twenty-five employees.

His first position at the University was Administrative Assistant to the President for 3 years. Previously, Mr.Swett was employed as a high school science teacher/coach for 6 years and a guidance counselor for 3 years.

Tommy Swett was elected at-large in his county, to serve on the Public School Board for two terms and appointed to fill a vacant seat. During his last term, he served as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Board.

He was active in his professional organization of Educational Opportunity Programs, serving as President on the State and Regional level and Board member on the National level.
